In 1999 U.S. Fisheries and Wildlife Service agreed to allow Hampshire College and the Western Center for Sustainable Aquaculture (WMCSA) the use of the Berkshire National Fish Hatchery for education and research in aquaculture and environmental education. The Berkshire Hatchery Foundation (BHF) was formed, within the local community, as a fund-raising and volunteer recruitment group to provide financial support to the hatchery.
The development and existence of the Berkshire National Fish Hatchery relies heavily on the dedication and the continued efforts of our volunteers. Over the past year 2000+ hours of volunteer time was logged at the hatchery. We would like to thank the efforts and generosity of these volunteers: Izaak Walton League, Kolburne School, Gould Farm, Mt. Everett School, Lake Garfield Association, Simmons Rock College, Hampshire College and the volunteers from the surrounding communities.
It is also supported by the contributions of individual donors and by attendees of fund-raising events like the annual Lobster Fest. Your participation and support is encouraged!
